World Environment Day June 5th 2017 celebrated by ENVIS-NBRI

On the occasion of World Environment Day, CSIR – National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) celebrated a grand function in its auditorium. The chief guest of the function Hon’ble Deputy CM of UP Dr. Dinesh Sharma emphasized on better harmony between environmental conservation and human life-style. Dr. Sharma said that our ancestors were very much aware of nature conservation and so linked different plants and animals to ritual ideology. Dy. CM urged to audience that citizens should act to conserve nature and environment as a dya-to-day need, not only just to celebrate as a special day. Dr. Sharma reminded about linking of each tree to each planet covering major nine planets of the universe. Dr. Sharma remembered about a tree bank of 35000 trees that he initiated during his tenure as Mayor Lucknow and planted all those trees as a mission in the city with the help of schools, colleges, universities and Lucknow Municipal Corporation. Hon’ble Dy CM prioritized the need of proactive role of institutions like NBRI to come forward and contribute in the State Govt. efforts of development vis-à-vis environmental conservation through green technologies in collaboration with different state departments.
Prof. S.K. Barik, Director NBRI welcomed chief guest, other dignitaries and students in his welcome address and highlighted about the history and importance of World Environment Day. Prof S.K. Barik informed that five major educational institutions (Saarthak Foundation, AHsaas Organization, Intergral University, Amity University, Rani Laxmi Bai School, City Montessori School) have participated in the open-day programme at NBRI.
Dr. Pankaj Kumar Srivastava, Senior Scientist informed about ENVIS-NBRI Centre supported by the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India along with environmental conservation and awareness programme being conducted by the ENVIS-NBRI, including newly developed android mobile application app Green Planner for citizens available at Google Play Store. During programme, ENVIS-NBRI Newsletter on Indoor Air Pollution was released by the chief guest.
