Major Activity

Orientation-cum-Training Programme on ENVIS NBRI by CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute at National Post Graduate College (N.P.G.C), Lucknow

On September 14, 2016 an Orientation-cum-Training Programme was held at the National Post Graduate College, Lucknow. This activity was organized by ENVIS- NBRI, Lucknow. Dr. Avijeet Chakraborti, HOD, Department of Botany, N.P.G.C welcome Dr. Pankaj K. Srivastava, Coordinator, ENVIS- NBRI with Dr. D.K Upreti, Director, CSIR NBRI. After welcome address Dr. D.K. Upreti gave Presidential Address & administered Pledge for Swachh Bharat to all students and faculty of N.G.P.C. After this Dr. Pankaj K. Srivastava explained about ENVIS NBRI, Orientation of ENVIS Scheme as well as conducted an environmental based Quiz. All the students participated with enthusiasm and won ENVIS Newsletter as a winning prize. A set of ENVIS NBRI publications were also distributed by ENVIS staff to all faculty members for better understanding of environmental related issues. In the end Vote of Thanks were done by Dr. Avijeet Chakraborti.

After this activity ENVIS staff presented poster presentation related to roadside, divider, greenbelt and indoor plants. Some potted plants were also set for better understanding of those plants which have following qualities:

  • Green belt plants:

Fast growth rate for quick development of big canopy which can withstand storm such as Azadirachta indica (Neem), Polyalthia longifolia (Ashok), Putranjiva roxburghii (Putranjeeva), Diospyros embryopteris (Gaab).

  • Divider plants:

Suitable to be planted in dividers, as they require less water & maintenance. Clean air of the area by supplying more oxygen and absorbing air pollutants. Such as Bougainvillea shubhra (Bogenvilliya), Tabernaemontana coronaria (Chandni), Thevetia nerifolia (Kaner).

  • Roadside plants:

Trees can absorb carbon dioxide and thus prevent warming, these trees can functions as sound barriers and their leaves can absorb air pollutants. Such as Lagerstroemia flosreginae (Jarul), Terminalia arjuna (Arjun), Terminalia muelleri (Badam).
