Addressing a tree plantation ceremony organised by Subh-e-Nau at Pakistan Sports Complex, Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination Main Riaz Husain Pirzada Thursday said that floods, which have wreaked havoc in the country, could be reduced by planting trees in the country. “We need a green revolution. Our natural recourses are depleting, creating grave repercussions for environment. The government is trying to thwart this depletion of natural resources with alacrity. Trees are sine-qua-non to clean environment. In present times, where pollution is rampant, trees play a pivotal role in containing the contamination of deleterious gases with air,” he held. Furthermore, trees help in stopping soil erosion, which provides more land for using it for agriculture purposes. He also stated that various countries, being cognizant of the importance of trees for environment, have not only preserved their green treasure but also extended it. Iran is a glaring example in this case, which not only preserved trees but also carried out a successive campaign to plant hundreds of thousands of trees. On the occasion, he also commented on the current political turmoil prevailing in the country. He claimed that Mian M Nawaz Sharif was an elected and legitimate prime minister and he could not be overthrown by illegitimate means. He reiterated that PML-N was not at all involved in electoral rigging and elections were held under neutral setup. If anyone has reservations, he must pursue proper path, as stipulated in the constitution of Pakistan, for rectification, added by the minister. In an affirmative tone he held, we believe in democracy and didn’t want to use force to clear the area.Our patience shouldn’t be taken as our weakness. The minister suggested, “The sit-ins must be called off by the respective leaders, so that normalcy returns and government machinery starts performing its duties efficiently.” Subh-e-Nau President Shahida Farroque thanked federal minister for participating in the event, where he planted a tree to support this noble cause. She raised her concerns over the deteriorating environmental conditions and its impact on human health.
